Ever looked at an architect’s blueprints for a mega project? For a lay person, like many of us, such sketches and drawings make little sense. Even if it does make some sense, clarity is veiled until the masterpiece is unveiled.
God’s plan for our life is not as shallow as man’s blueprint for the tallest skyscraper. It is not as dry as a scheme for the largest dam or as plain as the highest railroad in the world. Nothing on Earth can transcend the intricacy of God’s plan for our life. He painstakingly prepared our blueprint when we were a mere thought in his mind.
It is never easy to understand God’s plan. The only way to crack the code is to seek God with all our heart. When we are recruited as a soldier, we aren’t trusted with highly secure blueprints until our fidelity is ascertained. So, it is with God’s plan. The only difference is that a country hides its plans for its own benefit. With God, he doesn’t reveal his plan until we fully trust him, for our own well-being. It takes the whole heart, mind and soul of a person to carry out God’s divine plan. When the plan is big, the dedication required is immense.
God’s drawing table is stacked with an eternity’s worth of blueprints. When we observe the cosmos, we realize our place in the grand scheme of things. Our insignificance is highlighted in comparison to the vast scale of the universe. Similarly, our blueprint may be like a dot in the eternal blueprint of God. But, living up to God’s perfectly planned blueprint for our lives will yield bountiful blessings, a set path forward and heavenly peace of mind.
Often, God’s plan may seem too hard to follow even when it is as clear as day. Ever heard of that artisan who crafted an intricately designed sculpture, without a chisel or a file? Your trade, profession, career – whatever we like to call it- is the medium through which God shapes us to fit his perfect plan. Remember, the easiest roads often bypass some of the most important lessons in life.
Orphaned, taken prisoner, forced to accept an alien culture, but every day and night he prayed to the God of Israel, “as usual”! He went through trials, tests and temptations like all of us, but never lost his focus on God. Through his work, God uplifted Daniel and made him the King’s most beloved. God has his ways, which will never lead to ruin. We may feel like we’re running in a furnace, but we’ll come out more refined than ever when we give God control of our situation. If you are going through a tough time, though you have your heart firmly set on God, fret not. Our reward is just around the corner.
The poem below got me through some very hard times in life. I can gratefully say that the fire didn’t burn me because I was drowned in his love.
When God Wants to Drill a Man
When God wants to drill a man,
And thrill a man,
And skill a man
When God wants to mould a man
To play the noblest part;
When He yearns with all His heart
To create so great and bold a man
That all the world shall be amazed,
Watch His methods, watch His ways!
How He ruthlessly perfects
Whom He royally elects!
How He hammers him and hurts him,
And with mighty blows converts him
Into trial shapes of clay which
Only God understands;
While his tortured heart is crying
And he lifts beseeching hands!
How He bends but never breaks
When his good He undertakes;
How He uses whom He chooses,
And which every purpose fuses him;
By every act induces him
To try His splendour out-
God knows what He’s about.
