A Priest Who Understands

Hebrews 3:1 – “Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus.”

We tend to look for people who understand us. We gel with friends who like the same things we do. We prefer to hang out with people who get our lame jokes and laugh at them too. We look up to teachers and mentors who have been where we are and empathize with us.

Isn’t it comforting to know there is a God who truly understands us and everything we’re going through? Jesus faced temptation, He got angry, He wept… He was betrayed and put to shame. He was wrongfully accused and faced bitter punishment. He experienced the depths of sorrow and anguish. But it doesn’t end there… He conquered it all and He’s now in Heaven, interceding on our behalf.

Earthly priests may be shocked at our confessions… but not Jesus, the Great High Priest. He does not treat us as our sins deserve (Psalm 103:10). Rather, He offers us grace, forgiveness and freedom from a destructive lifestyle. Would you take up His offer? Perhaps you feel no one can possibly understand the complex emotions raging inside your soul. That is not true… Jesus does. He knows exactly what you’re going through. He can comfort and guide you in a way nobody else can. Will you let Him?
