Ask and Receive

John 16:24 NKJV

“Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”

We understand from today’s verse that Jesus invites us to let all our requests, concerns, and needs be known to Him. Praying in Jesus’ name means approaching the Father with confidence, knowing that through Jesus we have access to Him.

It’s being reliant on Jesus’ power, timing, and wisdom to accomplish His best for us. God graciously permits us to approach Him with the smallest of prayers. Just like a father hears his child’s voice and responds, God enjoys listening to our prayers.

At times, we hesitate to pray due to our insecurities. In John 16:24, we find that God desires that we make our petitions to Him. Prayer should be an honest and open dialogue with our Creator rather than some perfectly formatted list of wishes. In prayer, we recall the nearness of God. Whether our prayers are answered immediately or in time, we experience His love and presence.

Prayer is an act of trust. When we bring our concerns to Him, it indicates that we trust in Him for guidance, provision, and peace. Take your need and bring it to God in faith. Trust that He’ll do His best, even though sometimes His timing and method may differ from your ideas.

The outcome of asking and receiving from God is joy. Joy that He hears you, knows what’s in your best interests, and provides for you according to His will. Joy that is not indicative of passing circumstances but immersed in a deep sense of satisfaction in one’s relationship with God.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for inviting me to ask in Your name. Help me to trust in Your goodness and to believe that You hear my prayers. May my joy be full as I rest in Your promises. Amen.
