Psalm 119:92 – “If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.”
Trying times come to everybody. As long as we are on this earth, we will face afflictions of various kinds. We all have our own trials to face – each different from the other. The good news is that we don’t have to go through them alone. When we have a personal relationship with Jesus, we know He is with us in the good times and in the bad.
Sadly, even believers give up hope in times of affliction. The Psalmist, however, is one person who did not lose his faith during difficult times. And he gives the reason for it too. He delighted in the law – that’s what kept him through his affliction. Our faith cannot be based on flashy miracles or immediate answers to prayers. Yes, you may have experienced them. You should call them to mind and remember the goodness of God. But that shouldn’t drive your faith. Belief in God goes much deeper than that.
The more we meditate God’s Word, the more we see who He really is. Our faith begins to grow and we become stronger spiritually. When we delight in the Word, we know beyond any doubt that God is good and has good plans for our lives. The next time you find yourself in the midst of affliction, seek God through his Word. Delight in reading the Bible and you will hear the Holy Spirit minister to your exact need. No matter how great your affliction, the power of God’s Word is greater still and will help you overcome it.
