Eternal Compassion

2 Corinthians 4:8-9

We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.

Did you know that Jesus is passionate about compassion?

Yes, compassion was the driving force that compelled Him to leave His throne in heaven and step down to Earth, to die for our sins so we would not be lost in death.

Even the compassion of one of the most compassionate people on Earth was only a manifestation of Jesus’ passion for compassion. Yes, Mother Teresa often spoke about Jesus’ call on her life to show His love to the world.

In the 7th chapter of Luke we read about the widow from Nain, who was en route to burying her son. Jesus saw her and had compassion on her. No, she did not call out to Jesus and plead for a miracle. Jesus just saw her, made His way through the crowd that surrounded her, and in compassion told her to stop weeping. He raised her son from the dead and presented him to her. That is our Jesus!

In this world we may often feel hard-pressed, perplexed, persecuted and struck down, but the Lord of compassion has placed a safety net below to catch us when we fall. With heartfelt prayer, this safety net can be transformed into a trampoline to take us right back to the top.

But, remember it wasn’t the trampoline that got us there, it was prayer!
