Psalm 61:3 – For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.

Have you found yourself in situations that are overwhelming? Has your heart felt like life’s demands are too much to take? When we hit the end of what we can handle, who do we go to or where do we run to feel and be safe?

‘Refuge’ is defined as a place to which one may flee in danger.

Is God our location of safety in times of trouble? The psalmist describes God as a shelter and a strong tower.

We may find ourselves in circumstances which is beyond ourselves when faced with trials and sufferings of this life. It can be a financial crisis, problems at work place, relational Issues with loved ones, marital discord, sickness, bereavement or facing the unknown. God is a refuge and a fortress for those who run to Him.

Times of despair are the times of dependence on the Lord Jesus Christ. He will shield us from the storms of life, protect us from the hostility of the devil’s attacks and will strengthen our hearts to be confident without fear.

God and His word provides us the strategic position in the war we face. This battle is against our own fleshly weakness, corruption of this fallen world, accusations, temptations and attacks of the devil. We need to shelter in the right place at a higher level than our battles. The Lord Jesus Christ is that higher, safety ground we can securely anchor ourselves in.
