Our Compassionate Father

Psalm 103:13 – “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.”

The dictionary defines “compassion” as “the sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.” If a toddler falls on the road, everyone in the vicinity immediately winces and moves forward to help. We feel bad for the kid who’s been hurt and show our concern by trying to alleviate his/her pain.

In today’s verse, the Psalmist likens the compassion of the Lord as that of a father towards his children. A good father is always on the lookout for his kids. He is concerned about their wellbeing, and shows tough love when discipline is required. No matter the age of his kids, a father is ready to help out in times of trouble. Many in the world don’t have a father to watch out for them, but they have a Heavenly Father who doesn’t take His eyes off them.

The Lord loves you and cares about your day to day life. If you are going through a fiery trial, He understands your affliction. Sometimes, He removes the difficulties in our paths. At other times, God Himself gets into the fire with us and strengthens us through the trials. No matter what your current situation is, know that Your compassionate Father is with you. Trust in Him and He will bring you out of your trials, unscathed and better than before.
