The Immensurable Compassion of God

Psalm 103:13 – “As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him.”

“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.” (NIV).

“The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in loving devotion.  The Lord is good to all; His compassion rests on all He has created.” (Psalm 145:8-9).

Being covered by the compassion of God is a wonderful blessing to all who believe and fear Him.  He is also gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love, and He is good to all.

Earthly fathers can have all these qualities to a limited extent, that is, somewhat gracious, compassionate, patient, loving and good.  But God the Creator and our Heavenly Father pours these blessings on us, and allows His compassion to rest on us.  Wow! If something is at rest, it means it is not moving at all; and when we rest, we find relief and become relaxed.

So the weight of our Heavenly Father’s compassion is upon us, and unlike any weight that can exhaust us, it is a weight that does not wear us down — instead, it relieves us.

Praise God for He is a good Father! Praise Him for His compassion, His patience, His love, and His goodness! “For each day He carries us in His arms.” (Psalm 68:19b NLT).
