I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your loving kindness and Your
truth; for You have, magnified Your word above all your name – Psalm 138:2
Worship towards Your Holy temple –
this psalm was written by King David, a Psalm of thankfulness unto the Lord. The nation of Israel had
been in exile numerous times. As King David mentions towards the Holy Temple it indicates that
Israel is not in in exile. The Lord had given them victory. King David was a worshipper. Worship
brings victory. It did for King David. It can for you too.
And praise your name for your loving kindness and your truth –
King David praised God for His ‘name’ signifying His authority over all. King David knew the
implications of a king’s authority and it caused him to grow closer to God and love Him more. Is God
the authority in your life? Do you bow before Him in prayer? Is he honored in your decision making?
Worshipping God in adoration of His loving kindness towards you can help you surrender your life
choices to Him. The truth is His thoughts and plans for you are only good.
For you have, magnified your word above all your name.
In the Bible it was common for Kings and rulers to use their authority to break laws, sometimes even
the laws that were made by them. Here King David acknowledges that our God is the only righteous
King who keeps His Word and does not break his promises unlike the sinful rulers of the earth. Our
God is a just King. This is why we can trust Him. God is not a man to lie. We can take Him at His
word.
So today worship Him in the beauty of His Holiness. Worship Him for He is glorious and victorious.
Worship Him for He loves you with an everlasting love. Worship Him for He has promised you His
Word and His word stands forever. It does not have an expiry date. You can hold onto His word. It
will not fail you.
