“I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me.” Jeremiah 32:40
God enters into covenants with people to establish promises that span generations. He first made a covenant with Abraham, and throughout history, similar covenants have been forged with the patriarchs of faith.
Despite the promises made, the miracles witnessed, and the prophets sent to guide them, Israel repeatedly rebelled against God. Their stubborn and unbelieving hearts often hindered the fulfillment of these promises.
Our human rebellion and stubbornness cannot be remedied by earthly means; only God’s covenant can save us. Through the covenants, God seeks to establish a deep and enduring relationship with humanity. The covenant God establishes is akin to a marital bond, offering tremendous blessings when both parties remain faithful to their commitments.
The passage above not only issues a call but also extends a profound promise: “I will put my fear upon their hearts,” the fear of the Lord marks the beginning of all wisdom, wealth, and prosperity. Our gracious and loving God not only pledges prosperity, restoration, and abundance to His people but also takes it upon Himself to fulfill this promise. He extends His covenant despite our lack of trust and commitment, no matter how far we may have strayed. Today we’re privileged to serve the same God.
If you find yourself distant from God, feeling lost and hopeless, this promise is certainly for you. You are not too far from the reach of God’s grace — your faith and confessions brings you closer to Him. So, remember beloved, if it’s God’s covenant, He will carry it.
