Stay with the Shepherd

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:11‬ – “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”

Today’s verse paints a beautiful picture of the kind of shepherd our Lord is. When Jesus referred to Himself as the Good Shepherd (John 10:11), He really meant it. He did give up His life for us. Our Shepherd willingly accepted death that we, His sheep, might live. But His role didn’t end there.

The verbs in the verse above are quite meaningful. Here are a few things God still does for us:

  • He feeds us
  • He gathers us with His arm
  • He carries us in His bosom
  • He gently leads us

The only thing we need to do is remain close to Him. If the sheep starts drifting away from the shepherd, he will no longer be able to care for it or provide for its needs. We need to stay with the flock, a group of like-minded Christ lovers, and hold on to our Shepherd. Then we can be assured that God will lead us every step of the way, carry us when we’re week and satisfy our needs.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for being my Good Shepherd and dying that I may live. Help me remain close to You, no matter how tempting it may be to wander away. I trust that You know what’s best for me. Thank You for always being there for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
