Isaiah 61:8—”For I the Lord love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.”
This was the vision of Isaiah, that concerned Judah and Jerusalem in the days of the following kings of Judah: Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. Isaiah said, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed and commissioned me.”
Promises were made to the Jews who returned out of captivity and extend to all those, who through grace are delivered out of spiritual bondage.
God desires truth, justice, fair dealing and therefore hates all injustice and wrongdoing. Noone can justify a robbery to say, it was for burnt-offerings; that robbery is most hateful which is under this pretence. The point is that the stolen offering is unacceptable even though everything actually belongs to God and the thief arguably is only returning to God what is His for burnt offering. Let the children of godly parents be such, that all may see the fruits of a good education; an answer to the prayers for them, in the fruit of God’s blessing.
God will direct their work faithfully with a just reward to His people. God made this but eternal covenant with them.

What does “For I the Lord” mean?
-God’s nature is righteousness. -He loves righteousness and justice. -He does not forsake His saints. -He hates wickedness. -He establishes equity.
What does “I will direct” mean?
-God will teach us sinners in the way we should choose. -He will instruct us and teach us in the way which we should go. -If we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our paths. -God leads us in the way of righteousness, in the middle of the paths of judgment. -The Lord directs our hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.
What does “I will make” mean?
-If we follow God’s voice, God has given us an everlasting promise, the same faithful love promised to David. -God established a covenant between us and Him, an everlasting covenant, to be a God to us and to our generations. -Though our house may not be so in God; yet God made an everlasting covenant with us Believers (for our salvation and all our desires). -We Believers make our covenant with God by sacrifice. -God made an everlasting covenant with us, that He will not turn away from doing good to us Believers. -The same God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, has the blood of the eternal covenant with us. He equips us with everything good that we may do His will and works in us what pleases Him …
And what is the covenant?
All who see God’s children, children by the covenant, in their prosperity, will recognize and acknowledge that they are the people whom the Lord has blessed.
Just as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, the same way the Lord God will certainly cause righteousness, justice and praise to spring up before all the nations through the power of His Word. By the power of Christ’s gospel and grace, an unholy city is fitted to be a habitation of God, through the Spirit. All Believers are made kings and priests to our God and ought to always conduct themselves as such. Service to God is perfect freedom; it is the greatest honour. In the fulness of Heaven’s joys we shall receive more than double for all our services and sufferings.
