Romans 8:16-17 – “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
In a world that celebrates equality and democracy, we still look up to kings, queens and world leaders. When a baby is born into a royal family, the entire world is interested in the new prince or princess. The new heir inherits a title, wealth and mansions although he/she has no ability or qualification of its own.
Today’s verse expounds on a different type of royalty. The King of kings calls us His children, His own heirs through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We are now joint heirs with Christ and have a claim to a heavenly inheritance. As princes and princesses of God’s kingdom, we have access to things beyond this world. While we may have to endure hardships and sufferings in our lives, we can also lay claim to unspeakable joy, unexplainable peace and the abounding grace of God.
Even as you go about your normal day as a mortal human being, don’t forget that in Christ you are a royal prince/princess. You are an heir to the King of the heavens and the earth. You are His precious child. You inherit the same power and blessings that Jesus had when He was on the earth. Let this truth lead you into a more abundant life with the Lord.
