Proverbs 11:26 – “The people will curse him who withholds grain, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.”
What does generosity mean to you? The dictionary defines the word ‘generous’ as:
• showing a readiness to give more of something, especially money, than is strictly necessary or expected.
• showing kindness towards others.
Most of us do what is expected of us – be it at home, work or in society. We do our best to meet the expectations set by our family, peers and employers. But giving more than what’s required, doing more than what’s expected from us… that’s generosity.
If you really think about it, you are more blessed than millions in the world. If you were fit enough to get up from bed today, have food to eat, access to clean water, a roof over your head, and decent clothes to wear, you are better off than at least a billion people out there.
When God blesses us, we aren’t meant to hoard it. It’s in our blood to be generous because the God who created us is! Don’t withhold something when it’s in your power to give. You do need to apply wisdom in your generosity, but remember, it’s always more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).
Your giving need not be restricted to just your money though. Another valuable commodity is your time. Give your time to someone who may need a listening ear or a helping hand. Sometimes, just being generous with your time would bless the socks off a person in need. Ask the Lord how you can be generous with His blessings over your life today.
