1 Peter 3:18 – “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.”
It was a somber day when Jesus Christ was crucified. The skies turned dark and the earth quaked. The most righteous man on earth was put to death for no fault of His. The sins of the whole world were heaped on Him. Jesus paid a painful price for our unrighteousness. The just was punished in the place of the unjust.
Yet, it is that same day that we celebrate as Good Friday. Now, it’s no longer a somber day, but one of great rejoicing. We know that the death of one man purchased eternal life for all mankind. He bridged the gap between sinful man and a holy God. Today, we remember the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, but this is a memory we must keep alive in our hearts every single day.
Just as Jesus was put to death in the flesh, we put to death our sinful thoughts, words and deeds. Just as Jesus was raised up on the third day, we too have been made alive in Christ by the Holy Spirit. We are no longer slaves to sin and bound to works of the flesh. We have been set free to live and serve our Lord, by His grace.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I surrender my life into Your hands. Guide me in the paths of righteousness. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
Thank You Lord for the finished work on the Cross. We love you, Jesus.
