John 15:12 – “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
Love, as the dictionary defines it, is an intense feeling of deep affection for someone or something. But the love defined in the Bible is so much more than a feeling – no matter how intense. Love originated with God. It’s who He is (1 John 4:8). When our Lord Jesus Christ came down to earth, He was the epitome of love.
He didn’t just speak about love or show love, He was love. He still is. The early followers of Jesus Christ experienced His love in His words, His miracles, His healings, His provision, and His presence. We too experience the same love of the Lord Jesus Christ because it’s His Spirit that resides in our hearts. God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5)
Now that we’ve experienced that deep, personal love of God, it is our responsibility to love others in the same way. When we receive the fullness of God’s love in our hearts, we become channels that direct His love to others who need it in our circle of influence.
Now, more than ever, the world needs the love of Jesus and the hope we have in Him. Let’s get rid of anger, bitterness, and the need to have our way. Instead, let’s choose to be vessels that overflow with the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, loving others like Him, and proclaiming the hope we have in Him to a world that desperately needs it.
