John 6:40
” And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
John 6:40 is one of the most important passages in the New Testament. It declares our eternal security. The will of the Father is clear about His sending of the Son into the world.
First, it is important to grasp who the Son is. The word “sees” means to gaze intently to understand or know it.
Once a person grasps the significance of why the Father sent the Son, there is one fundamental necessity—to believe “in Him.”
If anyone meets the condition of believing in Jesus, he will have eternal life.
One day there will be a guaranteed bodily resurrection for those who believe in the Son.
Jesus is simply saying that God, our Father, wants his children back. This is reflected wonderfully in the parable of the Prodigal or Lost Son (Luke 15:11-32). Though we have strayed or fallen away from Him, His eternal purpose is to reclaim us. Christ wasn’t a backup plan to get us back to the Father, but the eternal plan to join us in fellowship with the Triune God. That’s comforting to know that from all eternity there was a plan to keep us united to and with God.
This eternal security is the foundation of our salvation. The Father’s and the Son’s will is to preserve those who believe. It is not possible for a person to lose his salvation. When it comes to salvation, the Bible teaches that God decreed salvation that would never change, an inheritance that cannot be defiled, and a seal that no one can break.
Hallelujah for this assurance. Blessed Day ahead.
