Psalm 37:28
“The Lord loves justice, and does not forsake His saints; they are preserved forever, but the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.“
Judge Horace Gray served as a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. During one of his cases, a criminal was about to be released, not because he was innocent, but because of a technicality. As Gray prepared to release the man, he said this to the man: “I know that you are guilty and you know it. I want you to remember that one day you will stand before a better and wiser judge and that there you will be dealt with according to justice and not according to law.” – Sources Unknown.
Does the above statement trigger our memories of witnessing some injustice either in the world around us or within us? If so, today’s scripture is the consolation for a child of God that we are not at the disposal of injustice because the one who is the Judge and loves justice, is by our side.
Psalm 37 is a “Didactic song”, which means it has wisdom teachings combined with instruction from “Torah”. It expounds on separate paths; “wise ” and “foolish” OR “Obedient” and “Disobedient” OR “Saints” and “Wicked”, etc. Reading this psalm, we must understand the providence of God and accommodate ourselves to it. We must carefully do our part and leave the rest to God. Believe it shall be “Well with those who fear God”.
Psalm 37:28 reminds us of His promise. He will not forsake us and will preserve us forever. All that God expects from us, His saints, are that we should do justly, be kind, continue to do good, turn away from evil, glorify God and edify others. Bring our will to the entire subjection of God’s will and Word.
Therefore, let us not be weary or weak but continue to run with His strength, knowing that nothing we face is too hard for God to handle. If we believe and allow God to act, justice prevails. Amen.
