Deuteronomy 28:2 “And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.”
We are all familiar with the term obedience. It is submission to authority, and a crucial part of society. Children obey parents, students obey teachers, citizens obey government, and the list goes on.
Obedience in the world does not always come out of love, but as an obligation and a moral duty. We do it because we do not have a choice or a say in the matter. Obedience in the world is an act of being controlled by a superior power. This is quite contrary to what obedience to God means in the Holy Bible.
The Holy Bible stresses on the importance of obedience to God and disapproves of frivolous behaviour towards His word. Having said this, it is also imperative to know that the Lord has given us the power of freewill and the right to make decisions and choices. We can therefore choose to ignore Him or pay heed to His voice. Disobedience to His word can destroy our lives. However, the Holy Bible seldom talks about the wrath of God, as He is the epitome of love and wants His children to be guided by love and not fear.
Obedience in the Holy Bible is an expression of love for the Almighty God. It is a clear sign of trusting and putting Him first in everything. When we obey Him out of love and reverence, He pours out His choicest blessings on us.
Let us therefore be careful in the way we lead our lives, making sure that it is in line with His word. Every choice we make has repercussions. If we ignore and disobey God’s voice, downfall is inevitable, but if we follow His sweet still voice, we can unlock His promises and receive His rewards in this lifetime.
Dear God, teach me Your ways and let my heart be receptive to Your word always. Help me to walk in obedience so that I may live a life that is pleasing to You. In Jesus name, Amen!
