John 12:46 NKJV

I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.

John 12:46 is a powerful declaration from the Lord about His role in the world. He is the Light, offering hope, salvation, and protection for all who accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. In a world filled with darkness, He is the source of everything that shines.

The comparison of light and darkness has been mentioned throughout the Bible, connoting the contrast between good and evil, truth and lie, and right and wrong. In this verse, the mention of Jesus as the Light of the world speaks of His divinity and His role as the Saviour of the world.

The term ‘whoever’ signifies that He is not just the God of a chosen group. Jesus is for all people – regardless of their past, background, or status. He offers a universal invitation for everyone to experience an intimate relationship with Him. What a powerful reminder of God’s grace and the mercy that He offers to humanity!

Jesus’ life and teachings invite us to come out of darkness into the light of God’s love. When we heed His invitation, we get to experience the joy of living in freedom as His beloved children.
