Unbroken Fellowship

1 John 1:3 NKJV

“That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.”

Fellowship is a vital part of Christian life. Someone so wonderfully said, “Fellowship is two fellows on one ship.” How true is that! For fellowship, two people have to be on the same page in their thoughts and discussions.

Today’s scripture emphasizes the need for believers to share the communion of the Spirit through the bond of love with one another. Communion is not just a Christian tradition repeated once in a while religiously, but the sharing of thoughts and feelings. When believers have regular fellowship with each other, it helps them grow and mature in their walk with God. Jesus called us to a life modelled after His own. He knew the spiritual significance and benefits of fellowship, and that’s why He commanded us to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31).

John the Baptist made a powerful statement that “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30) because he realized the power of an unbroken fellowship with the Lord. Our relationship with the Lord is enhanced and we grow in the Spirit when we have fellowship with each other. Fire encourages fire; when we’re in an environment of godly fellowship, our lives will grow to a greater measure of joy, peace, and favor.
