Ephesians 1:4 NKJV

He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love

Many of us live with the mindset that our birth was merely a chance occurrence; that we exist alongside millions with no significant purpose. This can lead us to navigate life carelessly – operating in survival mode as if our choices lack true meaning. Such thoughts may tempt us to justify questionable actions; believing that as long as we don’t harm others, our choices are acceptable.

However, today’s verse assures us that God chose us even before the creation of the world. We are not the result of a random chance; God intentionally created us for a purpose. He had a plan for us even before we were born (Jeremiah 1:5).

God desires His children to reflect His holiness (1 Peter 1:16). Grasping our purpose to be holy helps us take our mistakes and wrongful thoughts more seriously. So how can we, as children of God, strive for holiness?

  1. Desire to be Christ-like – Aspire to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5).
  2. Abide by Scripture – Follow the teachings of the Bible (1 John 5:3).
  3. Pray for Forgiveness – Regularly seek God’s forgiveness, knowing He is always willing to grant it (1 John 1:9).
  4. Avoid Conformity – Resist the patterns of this world (Romans 12:1-2).
  5. Live in God’s Grace – Embrace His grace as a source of strength to lead a holy life (2 Corinthians 12:9.

By recognizing our purpose and striving for holiness, we can align our lives with God’s will and reflect His love in a world that often forgets its significance.
