Psalm 145:1-2 NKJV
“I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever.”
Have you ever wondered why your phone constantly asks you to update apps? It’s like they never stop reminding you to refresh! Well, God doesn’t need reminding, but we do! In fact, the word “bless” appears over 400 times in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible—a reflection of how central blessing is to our relationship with Him.
Psalm 145:1-2 is a declaration of King David’s commitment to praising and blessing God every day. David, in this passage, is saying, “God, You’re amazing, and I’m not stopping my praise anytime soon!” He promises to bless God’s name forever, no matter the circumstances.
In the book of Job, we see a contrasting perspective. After Job loses his wealth, health, and children, his wife, overwhelmed with grief, says in Job 2:9 (NIV), “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!” While she succumbs to despair, Job chooses to trust and bless God even in his suffering, exemplifying unwavering faith.
To bless God means to honor, praise, and give thanks to Him for His goodness, mercy, and greatness. Though God is perfect and needs nothing from us, He invites us to bless Him through our actions, words, and attitudes. It involves recognizing His sovereignty, acknowledging His love and grace, and expressing gratitude for all He has done. Blessing God is not limited to words; it’s about living a life of praise, obedience, and worship. Every act of faith and thankfulness is a way of glorifying God, showing that He truly deserves all the honor.
