Proverbs 19:11 NKJV
The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression.
This verse highlights two important virtues that we need to have: wisdom and patience. It infers that the spirit of discretion will enable us to manage difficult situations with grace rather than in anger.
A wise person knows that all situations do not need a hasty response. In challenging circumstances, wisdom encourages us to pause and then respond in a calm manner. We need to develop this habit by taking the assistance of God, the Holy Spirit.
With the wisdom of God comes the ability of self-control which is an inner strength to overlook an offence and/or forgive the offender. It is a sign of maturity that also indicates that we are choosing peace over retaliation. This will greatly benefit our emotional and spiritual growth and well-being and also lead to healthy relationships.
Let us work towards developing a wisdom and patience-driven approach in our lives so that we are able to overlook offences. By working towards these virtues, we will be aligned with the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ that we need to be slow to anger and forgive people for their shortcomings.

Yes, this wisdom applies not only to navigating Bangalore’s traffic but also to handling challenging situations at work. Seeking God’s help brings a calming presence, transforming heated discussions into peaceful resolutions as mistakes are intentionally overlooked. It’s always encouraging to hear from others about maintaining coolness, knowing that it was truly God who helped me stay supercool. This is yet another area where I constantly seek God’s wisdom.
