Deuteronomy 33:27 NKJV
“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, and will say, ‘Destroy!’”
Children feel the safest in their parents’ arms. A child who tumbles down or feels anxious in a new environment immediately looks for a parent to pick them up and comfort them. It is a basic instinct of the child to seek safety in a parent’s embrace. And it should be our first instinct too – to run into God’s arms and find refuge in Him.
Parents can only offer their children limited protection, but our mighty, all-powerful God is not bound by human limitations. We are the apple of His eye (Psalm 17:8). His constant presence is a protective shield around us. Let us have the same assurance as the psalmist who says, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 118:6).
Today’s verse reminds us of an eternal God and His everlasting arms. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). When we abide in the Lord, we have the confidence that He is for us. He will handle everything that stands in the way of His purpose for us.
Are you worried or anxious about something in your life? Have you experienced a setback? Run to the Lord and take refuge in Him. Remind yourself that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). You are safe in the Lord’s arms.
