Psalm 145:6
“Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness.“
Do you wonder why the psalmist David says men will speak of God’s awesome acts and declare His greatness? Does God need to be reminded of His power and greatness? It is not God, but us who need reminding of His magnificent acts. It’s not enough for just us to know or be reminded of His power. Those around us also need to know the greatness of the God we serve and His power. In Psalm 145:4, David says, “One generation shall praise your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts.”
The chief purpose of man is to glorify God. Declaring God’s greatness is one way to glorify Him; it’s an act of worship. Our worship is a pleasing aroma to God. Declaring God’s greatness is a way of testifying about His power and goodness, especially in challenging seasons. It builds our faith and the faith of those we share our testimony with.
“Extol”, “bless Your Name”, “praise Your Name”, “commend Your works”, “declare Your mighty acts”, “meditate on the glorious splendor of Your Majesty and wondrous works”, “speak of Your awesome deeds”, “ sing aloud of Your righteousness”, “give thanks to You”, “bless You”, “speak of the glory of Your Kingdom”, “tell of Your power”, “make known to the children of man Your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of Your kingdom” – these are some of the ways David expresses the greatness of God in this chapter.
Consider these. What better way to build your relationship with God, who delights in your praise!
