We Have the Helper

John 14:26

The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

The Lord Jesus spent His last night with His beloved disciples, preparing them for His crucifixion. As the disciples were anxious and uncertain of where He was going, Jesus comforted their troubled hearts.

Having followed Him for three years after leaving everything behind, the disciples were now worried about the future without their Master. Jesus loved them dearly and led them as their Rabbi. He taught them everything they needed to carry His ministry forward, even during His absence. Regardless, Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit, their Helper, who would be with them forever.

Later, following Christ’s resurrection and ascension, we read in Acts 2 that the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit. The anointing of the Holy Spirit empowered them with courage, strength, and guidance to boldly preach the good news.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is not only for the early disciples, but also for all who believe and follow Jesus. He is our Comforter, Advocate, and Counselor, teaching us to understand and live out God’s Word. Our Helper will bring to our remembrance His teachings, enabling us to lead a righteous life apart from sin. As we follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit will cultivate in us His fruit (Galatians 5:22-23), thereby changing us from the inside out.

Today, let’s pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit as we surrender our lives to our Saviour’s will. We need the presence of our Helper to live victoriously in this fallen world. When the Holy Spirit takes ownership of us, our lives will never be the same again.
