Hebrews 6:19
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil.
An anchor holds a ship steady in rough waters and prevents it from drifting. Yet an anchor is only as secure as the object it is fastened to. Since our earthly life tends to become chaotic and unpredictable, we, too, need an anchor to avoid drifting off course. Hence, it is prudent to check what we anchor ourselves to.
The anchor of a believer is hope in Christ and His incorruptible nature (Numbers 23:19). This infallible hope gives us solid ground to stand on when everything else is sinking sand. This hope is sure and steadfast because of the person, blood, and righteousness of Christ. Every single promise in His Word is our spiritual lifeline. It gives us stability and security in times of uncertainty.
This hope is not based on our efforts but on God’s faithfulness. In the Old Testament temple, only the high priest entered behind the veil to stand in God’s presence. He did this once a year to atone for the sins of Israel. When Jesus tore this veil on the cross, He became our eternal High Priest. Today, He continually intercedes for us before the Father.
Now, we are welcomed into God’s presence, where we can lay our requests and doubts at His feet. We have anytime-direct access to our Father in Heaven, in the name of His Son.
Therefore, let us become prisoners of hope, for Christ in us is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). When the world goes from bad to worse, from disobedience to greater rebellion, let us stay anchored to the One who never lets go of us.
Let us hold fast to this hope and encourage one another to stay anchored in Him.
