Psalm 136:3

Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever.

Psalm 136 is a beautiful song of worship and thanksgiving. It reminds God’s people of who He is and gives them many reasons to praise Him. Psalm 136:1–3 focuses on God’s supreme character. He is Jehovah, the God of grace; Elohim, the God of might and power; and Adonai, the sovereign Lord.

Verse 3 declares, “Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!” God is above every ruler, king, and authority. Earthly rulers may have power and influence, but there is only one true Lord over them all. He is the Lord of lords.

The verse continues with a beautiful assurance: “For His mercy endures forever.” This phrase is repeated twenty-six times throughout Psalm 136, reminding the people again and again of God’s unfailing mercy.

What a wonderful truth to hold on to! God’s mercy never runs out. It doesn’t depend on our circumstances, our success, or the people around us. We experience His mercy through His protection, provision, forgiveness, guidance, and unfailing love.

Therefore, whatever season of life we are in, let us remember to give thanks. In difficulty, let us trust Him; in sorrow, let us seek His presence; in failure, let us turn to His grace. And in times of success and blessing, let us remember to thank Him.

Whatever today brings, we can have a thankful heart because our God is the Lord of all lords, and His mercy and loving-kindness will endure forever. His faithfulness remains through every season.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unfailing mercy and everlasting love. Help us remember Your goodness in every situation and give You thanks each day. May our hearts always praise You and trust in Your mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
