Psalms 139: 17-22—”How precious to me are your thoughts,[a]God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you. If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me,you who are bloodthirsty! They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. Do I not hate those who hate you,Lord, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you? I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.”
Try to fathom this – sometimes, we sit sad, depressed and dejected. Instead of listening to the lies of the devil, have we tried to look at our relationship with God through His eyes? God has thought, and still thinks, of us innumerable times or even most of the time regarding our concerns and our welfare. Those number of times are unaccountable and we cannot comprehend them, try as we might. We cannot even think of the many, many mercies we have received from Him. We owe our very waking up the next morning to God’s grace. How can we thank God for His gift of salvation? We must avoid using our members and senses for unrighteousness unto sin and retain our immortal and rational souls for Him. If God did not think about us and look out for us, we would not have a reason to live. Even if we did, it would be a life of misery. How should we then share God’s love to sinners(unbelievers)? Believers must live to hate sin but lament(and pray for salvation) of the sinners through our love and respect for God. With God, their prayers make their salvation possible.
God looks after us and deals with our enemies. God’s enemies are enemies for us also because they speak ill of God (our love). Also, they are infatuated with cheap god-imitations. So it is easy for us to hate those who hate the one we love; to abhor those who rebel against our God.
Not only are you chosen, called out, saved, made a co-heir with Jesus, able to call God ‘Father’, protected, given provision in this world and the Power of the Holy Spirit. All of this is apart from the inheritance of blessings to the Church and promises to the seed of Abraham. Now, let’s go back to the first line we first spoke about “Sometimes, we sit sad, depressed and dejected.” Does it make any sense? Why would we ever feel this way or want to do this?
