Luke 18:7-8 NKJV

Shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.

In Luke 18, Jesus tells the parable of the persistent widow to illustrate the power of persistent prayer and God’s faithfulness in answering His chosen ones. God hears every cry of His people, even when the answers seem delayed. His timing is perfect, and His justice is certain.

God’s timing is perfect, and His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). Charles Spurgeon aptly said, “God’s delays are not His denials; they are His wise postponements.” As His elect, we have the assurance that our prayers are not ignored.

Jesus declares that God will avenge His own “speedily,” reminding us that His justice is swift when it comes. Though our timing may differ from God’s, we can trust His character—He is righteous, loving, and true. Psalm 34:17 says, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.”

As we wait on God, let us not grow weary in prayer. Jesus ends this passage by asking, “When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). Faith is demonstrated in our persistence, trust, and unwavering hope in the One who has promised to act.
