A Life Of Contentment

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He, Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

We have heard the idiom. The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side

This is a very basic human quality. We always want something different. This verse seems like an exact response to that human quality.

There are few key points in this verse

Let our conduct be without covetousness.
Be content with what you have.

When we see the success of the people around us, it is human nature to wish we had their lives. We may already be doing good, but we are not content because someone else has a more extravagant lifestyle. The verse is NOT saying that we should not be successful or ambitious but to be without covetousness.

Covetousness is a negative trait because the desire may be unlawful, selfish or done at the expense of others.

The scripture challenges ‘to be content with what we have’. Then, it continues with an encouragement that the Lord Jesus will never leave nor forsake us. As God’s children, we have God on our side. When we obey him, He has promised us to be our Provider.

Today, we may be looking around and seeing friends, family, and co-workers moving ahead. Remember His promise “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
