Be Prepared

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 – “I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”

The last chapter of Revelation resounds with Jesus’ words, “Behold, I am coming soon”. The early church truly believed Jesus was going to return very soon. But as the years turn into decades, centuries and millennia, have we given up on Jesus’ return? We know He is certainly coming back, but since we don’t know exactly when, we might have become a bit lackadaisical in our waiting.

A bride, who’s waiting for her groom to arrive, does not go back home and change into her pyjamas. She remains dressed in white, ready to get married as soon as her fiancé enters the church. We, the church, are the bride of Christ. Have we given up the joy and anticipation of waiting for our Saviour to come back for us?

We must heed Paul’s words in the verse above, and strive to live a blameless life as we wait to meet Jesus face to face. He washed us clean by His blood and arrayed us in a robe of His righteousness. When He comes back for us, will He find us ready? We cannot live a holy life apart from Him. The God who called us is also faithful to complete the good work He began in us. Let’s rely on the Holy Spirit to teach and guide us in our daily lives.
