Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods
and worship them. Deuteronomy 11:16
Being wise and discerning is advised in the Bible to keep believers from stumbling due to the
prevalent deceit in the world. During times of weakness, worldly pleasures can seem enticing
enough to choose them over the Lord, our God. Desolation and silent seasons often open doors
to unnecessary idols or deceivers that lead us down the pathway of destruction. In
Deuteronomy 11:16 the Bible warns us against turning our hearts to false gods and other idols.
Many times our possessions and desire for worldly things can be stronger than our desire for
Christ which the Bible warns against. God desires to be enthroned in the hearts of His children
to get all the praise He deserves.
The quintessential factor to have a functional Christian life is to have your guard up always while
trusting in the Lord regardless of what our eyes can see. Every decision is to be taken post
taking heed of the consequences to discern against deception. God promises to be our guide in
every instance through His Holy Spirit when we obey. May we be wise as a serpent and
harmless as a dove in our daily lives, as this is the will of God for each one of us.
Precious Jesus, thank you for your loving kindness and mercy that never fails. Give us the
strength today to put our trust in you alone and never harden our hearts away from you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
