Matthew 3:8: Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance.
All those of us who are saved and baptized need to bear fruits that are worthy of salvation. Our life and our character should match. We cannot have a holy life at a holy place and behave erratically outside the holy place. We cannot have a two-sided face to the lifestyle that we live. Our lifestyle should be well balanced on the word of God. Character is most important in a Christian’s life.
We may be filled with all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but if we don’t show godly love to others, we are no better than the people who don’t know the nature of God or His love. We have to bear fruits that are worthy of repentance. Fruit of love, peace, patience, longsuffering, etc., need to be seen in our everyday life. Our life should be based on this. We cannot preach one thing and follow some other thing. God expects us to have a changed and a transformed life from inside out. The change has to come from within, outside. We cannot be angry or hateful or irritable of our own brother and sister and preach to the others about repentance. God doesn’t like it.
Fruits on a tree don’t come easy. The tree need to be taken care of, pruned, and nourished. At the right time, at the right season, the tree bears its fruits. In the same way, we need to feed ourselves on the word of God, be ready for a pruning and a cleansing from God and then we will start to bear fruits that God so desires so that we can cherish and nourish others by leading an exemplary life. Let us ask God to help us bear fruits and to be of service to those around us.
