Ruth 2:12
The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.
This verse works wonders when we learn to apply it to our daily living. Many of us are familiar with Ruth’s story, how she lost her husband and followed her mother-in-law to the land of Israel. This verse comes to us from the life of Ruth. But how do we apply it in our own lives and make it relevant? Here’s how:
We all appreciate recognition and rewards. Children delight in hearing “good boy” or “good girl.” Students enjoy receiving prizes and scholarships. Employees value accolades for their efforts. But there are times when we feel overlooked, often due to the sheer ignorance of people or their lack of understanding in recognizing our efforts.
In those moments, we must speak today’s verse out loud to our minds and hearts. Even though this world and people may fail to recognize our efforts, our Lord will repay us for our work. We will receive a full reward from Him. When we feel underappreciated and undervalued, we need to seek shelter under His wings, where we feel ever loved and never rejected. He is truly our hiding place.
When we depend on God for our rewards, as it says in Psalm 121:1-2, “Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth”, we will surely be rewarded in His time. Moreover, we will grow stronger and remain cheerful as we wait.
During this season of Lent, may the Lord grant us grace in our time of waiting. Let us remain under His wings, where we find love and peace. When we receive our reward in due time, may He help us stay humble and prepare us for greater achievements.
