1 John 5:14 (NKJV) – Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
John, the Apostle is talking about confidence of God’s children. This is the confidence believers would have that God hears them when they pray ‘according to His will’. To comprehend His will, it is imperative that we grow in our understanding of the Word and the various ways the Bible teaches about God’s will.
As long as we are leading a life that pleases our God, we will understand His will and have a confidence that He hears us when we pray. From the characters in the Bible, we see that God was very pleased with Enoch’s relationship with Him. In the New Testament, Apostle Paul urges each of us to live a life pleasing to God (1 Thessalonians 4:1). A few examples that can help us live such a life is to fear God, display faith in Him, obey Him, have a constant endeavor & zeal for spiritual growth etc.. This kind of lifestyle gives us a great confidence that God hears us whenever we pray and in fact, even when we are silent.
But honestly speaking, there would be some days when that confidence shakes, and we are not sure if God’s hearing us and we get anxious. That could be a sign that we are a little off track (Isaiah 59:1). Nevertheless, we should note that we still have our faithful God waiting for us to return to Him. So, we can get on our knees, boldly approach His throne of grace, repent and cry for help. Needless to say, He will hear us and then, He continues to keep hearing us. What a blessed assurance!
