Psalms 68:6 God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.
David entered the battlefield with just a sling and a few pebbles. His opponent from the enemy camp of Philistine was a towering giant with an advanced range of armory and weapons. When he saw David approaching him, he said. “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?”
Little did Goliath know that David came against him with more than just rudimentary tools. He had the mighty God of the Bible with him. And that was more than enough to defeat a multitude of giants!
Unlike the ten spies who came back with negative reports about the Promised Land, David was more than confident in the power of our God. Are we like David, who knew that he was mightier than the giant because God was with him, or like the ten spies, who felt like grasshoppers in front of similar giants?
Often, satan builds strongholds in our lives that look like giants. They seem impossible to bring down with our own strength. If we are not vigilant, satan uses this stronghold to erect new strongholds in us. Soon he has a colony of strongholds, which binds us and causes us to lose hope in freedom.
That’s how the Israelites felt on the battlefield. Though their ultimate goal was to defeat the Philistines, they could not look past the giant that stood in front of them. Goliath was the towering stronghold, surrounded by an army of lesser strongholds.
David declared, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty.” – 1 Samuel 17:45
And with that, David ran towards the battle line, slung a stone and hit Goliath right between the eyes with so much force that it sunk into his forehead! Goliath came crashing down. “When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran.”
That’s how it is with our strongholds. Let’s not shrink back from challenging our most daunting stronghold with God’s help. Because when we destroy that stronghold, all our other strongholds will run for cover! And with that, we will make room for God to bless and prosper us!
