Psalm 92:12
The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
God, the creator of the heavens and earth, compares His righteous children to palm trees and cedars of Lebanon. Wonder why?
Palm trees and the cedars of Lebanon are both tropical evergreen trees. Palm trees have played a significant role in human history, symbolizing victory, peace, and fertility. The cedar of Lebanon is the most iconic species of the cedar tree, reaching impressive heights, with some trees living for over 1,000 years. Hence, these trees represent a wonderful promise for those who remain righteous in God’s sight.
In contrast, the wicked are likened to grass (Psalm 92:7). Grass may grow rapidly but is easily destroyed. Unlike the palm trees or the cedars of Lebanon, grass is reduced to hay for animals. It reminds us of how quickly the glory of the wicked fades, but God’s righteous will stand tall, withstanding various seasons!
We often act foolishly, failing to understand God’s ways and thoughts, and we rebel against Him (Psalm 92:6). Sometimes, we consider God as a means to achieve personal success instead of recognizing His Lordship in our lives. Let us allow God to convict us of all the wickedness within us.
Today, let us give thanks to the Lord (Psalm 92:1) for imparting in us righteousness through the finished work on the cross. By the shed blood of His only Son, God has made us righteous. May our lives flourish and stand tall like the majestic cedars of Lebanon, strong and unwavering, rooted in His love and grace.
