Counsel from the Lord

Psalm 16:7 – I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

Liz was in dire straits. The bills were piling, her rent was up and the last straw was the day when she, shockingly and unexpectedly, received the pink slip from her company. Reason: Downsizing. The company couldn’t afford her. With all hope gone and while in the midst of her mental conflict and anxiousness, she received a casual call from her childhood friend. After listening intently to Liz’s pressing, financial crisis, she decided to help Liz out. She drew out a plan on her excel sheet and showed her how she could pay her bills using analytical thinking. They even sought advice from a financial advisor. After a few hours, Liz’s money problem was solved. Without borrowing money from anyone or even increasing the credit limits on her credit cards, she found a way out. It was as if a heavy burden was lifted off her head. She couldn’t be more grateful for her friend’s timely advice and counsel. In her excitement she exclaimed out to her friend, “Bless you and bless your heart a million times!”

Here we have this all powerful God who has done so much for us, what can we do for Him?  We can do what David did, bless His heart. If you are truly grateful for all He has done, you would, like David say: “I will do whatever I can, I will make whatever sacrifice necessary, to please His heart.”

Why is David so committed to pleasing the heart of God?  Because the Lord has given him counsel or advice. Getting advice from the Master of the Universe, would be enough to make anyone grateful. David and God shared a beautiful relationship. It was as if he leaned on the bosom of His God and tried to listen to His heartbeat. David relied heavily on the Lord’s counsel. He rejoiced when that happened. Who would not want advice from God Himself!

Imagine sitting across the table with the Master of the Universe and sharing your problems, anxieties, insecurities and fears with Him. He listens to every ‘spoken’ and ‘unspoken’ word intently and then speaks to you, advises you, assures you, puts an arm around you and tells you that ‘He’s got you!’ and that you don’t need to worry at all. Is it possible that the Creator of the Universe, the Lord of the Angelic Hosts, God Almighty has time for you and listens to you!?!

The answer is simple and it’s the absolute truth: YES, He longs to have a relationship with you. He is passionately in love with you. He cares for you. He loves you with an everlasting love. You just need to believe and receive it!!!
