Psalm 1:2 -3 – “…but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
The Psalms are well known for their beauty and depth. It is no coincidence that this big book of beautiful words is smack dab in the middle of the Bible. And these verses we’re pondering today are right in the very first chapter of Psalms! The book of Psalms begins with a blessing. But it also goes on to give some instructions on how we must conduct ourselves if we are to prosper in all that we do.
It’s pretty simple when you look at it – delight in the Word of God, and meditate on it day and night. But what does that mean in practical terms? We need to have a heart that desires the living Word of God. When we look forward to reading our Bibles, and open our minds to hear from God, He will speak and fill our cups till they overflow.
When we allow the Word of God to flood our souls, it will wash out all doubts and fears that steal our peace. The more we seek God, the more we are watered. As long as we remain connected to Him, we won’t wither, we’ll start bearing much fruit in and through our lives, and we’ll prosper in everything we do. What a blessing that is!
