Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood. Isaiah 54:4 (NIV)
The phrase “Do not be afraid” is written approximately 365 times in the Bible, as if God knew we would need to hear it every single day of the year. God is omnipresent. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13). He knows every detail of our lives, even before it occurs. When we serve such a God, we can rest assured that He will take care of us in every situation of our lives.
There are times when we experience utter shame and dishonor. It could be due to difficult circumstances at our workplace, home; or the deplorable behavior of loved ones, colleagues, or even strangers. It might also be a result of our sinfulness. No matter what we are going through today, God is watching over us, and He has our back.
The Psalmist encourages his readers to turn to God in such situations, promising that He will not allow us to be humiliated or feel ashamed. If we seek God in times of trouble, He will embrace us in His holiness and give us the strength to face the battles before us. God is good, and if He is for us, who can be against us?
Let us not forget God when we need Him the most. He is truly the only One who will never leave us nor forsake us. The Bible tells us that while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us. His love is unconditional, and He alone has the solution to our problems. So, instead of seeking out a person to pour out your feelings of shame, discouragement, or brokenness to, simply run to God in prayer. The moment you lay down all that is in your heart at the feet of Jesus, the peace that surpasses all understanding will come and rest in your heart forevermore.
