Colossians 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Do we work for God or people?
In the physical world, it is obvious that we work for people. Be it a corporate job where we work for an organization governed by people or at home where we care for our families, we work for people.
Or do we?
Everything that happens in the physical world is orchestrated by forces in the spiritual realm.
That’s why the Bible says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12
The Roaring Miracle
Take Daniel’s sleepover in the lions’ den, for instance. He was placed among numerous lions, but they didn’t harm him. The next day, when his enemies were thrown in, the same lions devoured them. The hand of God ensured Daniel’s safety.
But it isn’t always obvious.
Sometimes it is hard to perceive God’s hand at work in mundane moments, as in the life of Elisha. He did everything possible to serve Elijah, but nowhere do we read that Elijah appreciated Elisha’s service. Nevertheless, Elisha stuck to his calling.
Even before Elijah left this world, he tried to push Elisha away—not once or twice, but on three occasions! But Elisha refused to leave his side. He was convinced that God had sent him to serve Elijah, and he did it with all his heart, even until Elijah was no longer a part of this physical world.
The reward for his faithful service was a double portion of Elijah’s anointing.
Sometimes it isn’t easy to serve the people God has put in our lives. However, it doesn’t seem as daunting when we understand the deep truth that we aren’t working for people. We work for a great God who, at the right time, will bless us with a double portion!
