Psalm 37:18-19
“The Lord knows the days of the upright, and their inheritance shall be forever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.”
This passage reflects the beautiful assurance and promise of inheritance that all the saints have in Christ. The Lord doesn’t just observe the righteous; He intimately knows their lives, their struggles, and their destiny. The Hebrew word for “knows” here is “yada“, meaning more than just awareness—it signifies deep, personal, and intimate knowledge. God watches over them with care, guiding their steps (Psalm 37:23).
The verse of the day offers a twofold promise: an eternal inheritance as well as provision in times of trouble. The word “inheritance” refers to a permanent possession, something that cannot be taken away. For the believer in Christ, this points to the eternal inheritance we have in Him (Ephesians 1:11). This is not wealth that fades but an everlasting reward in God’s kingdom.
God promises that while the world may experience lack, God’s people will be satisfied, filled, nourished, and sustained. Jesus affirmed this when He said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
No matter what uncertainties surround us today, God’s promises remain unshaken. He knows our days, He will secure our eternal inheritance, and He will provide for us—even in seasons of scarcity. Let’s trust in Him, for He is faithful.
