Psalm 34:8
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Why does the Bible say “taste”? Why not see, hear, or understand? And honestly, what do we taste every day? Morning coffee, homemade food, street snacks, maybe even disappointment or betrayal when something or someone doesn’t meet our expectations.
Taste is personal. No one can taste for you. You can describe a flavour all you want, but until someone experiences it themselves, it remains a theory. That’s exactly why Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” God doesn’t want to be known only through second-hand stories or borrowed faith. He invites us to experience Him personally.
The verse highlights one clear aspect of God, His goodness. Not goodness as a vague idea, but goodness that can be encountered. God’s goodness is felt in quiet strength during hard days, unexpected peace in chaos, and gentle guidance when we don’t know what to do next. It’s goodness that sustains, not just impresses.
The world also offers things to “taste”, such as success, pleasure, and validation, but they often leave us wanting more. God’s goodness, on the other hand, satisfies deeply and steadily. It doesn’t fade or disappoint.
Psalm 119:103 echoes this truth: “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.” God’s ways nourish the soul in ways nothing else can.
So today, don’t just know about God. Spend time with Him. Pray honestly. Trust intentionally. Let His goodness meet you right where you are and taste for yourself.
