Fervent Love

1 Peter 4:8 – “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for ‘love will cover a multitude of sins.’”

The world’s definition of love is varied. Whether the object of your affection is chocolate, a friend or a family member, it’s the same word that applies. But the Bible defines love a bit differently… “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Jesus was the epitome of God’s unconditional love for us. Our sins were so great that it caused a great divide between God and man. Jesus bridged that gap through His sacrifice on the cross. It was His love for us that kept Him on the cross and it’s His love that sustains us on a day to day basis. God’s love for us has covered a multitude of our sins. Now that we’ve experienced the love of Jesus, it’s our responsibility to share a bit of it to others around us.

In John 13:34, Jesus says, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” If we truly love God and are willing recipients of His fervent love for us, we too must love the people God has placed in our lives.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your unfailing love towards me. Help me show the same love to those around me, so they may see You in me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
