Matthew 6:22 ESV
The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light.
In Matthew 6, Jesus shares how we are live and what really matters. In verse 22, He relates the eye to the lamp of the body. Just like a lamp brightens a room, our eyes bring light to our lives. When our vision is clear and focused on the right things, our whole life can shine brighter.
The message is not just about seeing but about centering our attention. What we watch, think about, and prioritize shapes who we are. If we fill our minds with pure, uplifting, and godly thoughts, our actions will follow suit. But allowing jealousy, fear, greed, or negativity to take over will ruin the peace within us.
For instance, spending hours on social media comparing your life to others can drain your joy. When you shift your attention to better things, your mind feels calmer, and your heart feels lighter. Our eyes are like windows deciding what gets in and influences our lives. So, it’s worth pausing and asking ourselves what we’re letting in.
To live in the light, it’s important to trust God’s plans rather than clinging to our own selfish goals. Let’s work on putting our faith in His purpose instead of chasing our own limited ideas.
Prayer: God, help me keep my eyes focused on You. Guide me to see what is good and pure, and help me live in the light of Your truth. Amen.
