Fruit of Obedience

Philippians 2:8

Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Obedience sometimes requires us to walk through uncomfortable situations and submit to the Lord’s direction, rather than carrying out our own will in our own way. In Philippians 2:8, Christ our Lord sets the ultimate example of obedience by taking on human limitations and faithfully fulfilling His calling, even to the point of death.

In difficult and uncertain times, it may seem easier to step away from our responsibilities. However, the Lord calls us to obey Him fully – not only when it is convenient – so that we may finish our race well. Partial obedience does not produce the complete work God intends in us. Instead, when we follow the Lord’s leading wholeheartedly, we bear fruit in due season.

In seasons when trusting God feels difficult, the finished work of the cross and the resurrection of Jesus that fulfilled earlier prophecies stand as our assurance and witness. Regardless of our circumstances, obedience to God’s will not only leads us safely to our destination but also keeps us from stumbling and destruction.

As we observe Good Friday today, let’s be grateful for the obedience of Jesus on the cross that secured our salvation and granted us eternal life.

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for Your divine plans for my life. I choose to hold on to Your promises and obey Your Word. Help me follow the example of Christ, set my heart on You, and finish this race of life with obedience and humility. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
