God is with you

Judges 6:14-16 – “And the LORD turned to him and said, ‘Go in this might of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?’ And he said to him, ‘Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.’ And the LORD said to him, ‘But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.'”

We’ve read about the story of Gideon, the mighty man of God who overturned an entire army of Midianites with just 300 men by his side. But we rarely hear about how worthless and incapable Gideon felt when God first called him to lead Israel. In the verses above, we see Gideon asking God how he could possibly save Israel. He belonged to the weakest clan in Manasseh and he was considered the least in his family.

God’s answer to Gideon included five power-packed words, “I will be with you”. And those are the same words God is telling us today. Are you faced with insurmountable challenges in your life? Have you been asked to do something that seems impossible? Do you feel you’re unprepared, not ready, worthless, or not capable of doing a good job? We will mess up if we place our confidence in ourselves. Place your confidence in God instead. He has promised to be with you. He will strengthen you and help you do better than you can even imagine.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the promise of Your presence in our lives. The next time we feel incapable, help us trust in You and rely on Your strength to get the job done well.
