2 Corinthians 9:8: “God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”
God loves a cheerful giver and He is faithful. If we give to meet the needs of others, we can be rest assured that God will never leave us in a state of dearth. He is a God of abundance and He loves when His children depend on Him for all the provisions. He can bless us abundantly so that we always have enough to share with others.
In the Old Testament, there is a beautiful story of Elijah and the Widow at Zarephath. In 1 King 17:7-16, we read about the excerpt where the Lord led Elijah to a place called Zarephath in the region of Sidon so that he could fulfill his hunger and also perform a great miracle that God had ordained.
A certain widow was gathering a few sticks at the town gate so that she could make the last meal for her son and herself to eat during the period of drought. When Elijah saw her, he asked for a jar of water and a loaf of bread. But all she had was a handful of flour and a jar of olive oil which she had kept to make her family’s last meal.
Little did she know that God was about to perform a miracle through Elijah which would allow her to eat every day until the drought was over.
She obediently brought a loaf of bread for Elizah and with this act, God made it so that the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry until the day the Lord sent rain on the land.
Our God is a God of abundance. When He chooses to bless His children, nothing can compare with the sufficiency that follows through His doings. But God is looking for His children to obey Him first and His words. We all look for blessings in our lives but very few of us are willing to place our faith and trust in God. Obedience to His word and His voice is crucial to receiving what He has in store for us.
May God bless us with all good things so that we can share with others and those in need.
